I’m Back — and Here’s a Sneak Peek at My ABAQUS Masterclass Series!

Hello Reader,

I am back

It’s been a while since I last connected with you through this newsletter — and I’ve truly missed writing to you! Over the past six months, I took a sabbatical from both my YouTube channel and newsletter to focus on several ongoing projects.

The good news is: I’m fully back — refreshed, inspired, and ready to share new insights, ideas, and tutorials with you every week.

A warm welcome as well to all the new subscribers who have joined the CMVideos community during my time away. I value your interest deeply, and I look forward to engaging with you more meaningfully as we continue our journey in computational modelling and applied mechanics.

Today’s Highlights

Here are the three issues I will reflect on today:

  • Everything you need to know about RVE modelling
  • ABAQUS Masterclass series on YouTube
  • Quote for the Week

Everything you need to know about RVE modelling

My first full-length video after returning to content creation on YouTube covers a topic I’ve been passionate about for years: Representative Volume Element (RVE) Modelling in ABAQUS.

This video provides a complete framework for anyone who wants to understand how to model RVEs correctly — from theoretical foundations to simulation setup. It’s ideal for students, researchers, and engineers who want to perform multiscale analysis or explore composite material behaviour.

I’d love to hear your thoughts or questions. Simply reply to this email — I read every response personally and often use your feedback to guide future tutorials.

ABAQUS Masterclass Series on YouTube

For some time, I’ve been preparing to launch a structured, pedagogically sound ABAQUS Masterclass Series on YouTube. My goal is to teach ABAQUS from the ground up — combining foundational theory with practical simulation workflows that make complex ideas accessible.

There are many excellent ABAQUS tutorials online, but I believe I can offer a unique perspective: one that merges theoretical understanding with teaching clarity developed through my academic and research experience.

This Masterclass will cover everything from model setup and meshing to scripting, materials, and post-processing — a complete journey designed for learners who want more than “click-and-run” tutorials.

In future newsletters, I’ll share the guiding principles behind the Masterclass, upcoming topics, and how you can help shape the content. Your feedback will be invaluable as I build this learning series for our growing global community.

I want you to join me create this Masterclass, so any feedback you can give me would be invaluable. Here is the number #01 video in the series:

Quote for the Week

I often end my newsletters with a quote from a book or thinker, but this time, I want to share something more personal — a message I received on YouTube that deeply moved me:

In 2022 - 2023, I was working on my undergraduate thesis on Abaqus Simulation of Composite Materials. At that time, there were hardly any relevant tutorials on Abaqus for materials science. I learned the software from various other resources. Then one evening, I suddenly discovered this channel! All the basics I needed for my project, I learned from here. By the grace of Almighty, I successfully completed my project and graduated. Dr. Michael Okereke, I owe you a lot. I am forever grateful to you. It’s wonderful to see you creating new videos on FEM—please keep it up. With love and respect from Bangladesh.
-Md Ashfakur Salehin, MSC student, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh

I was really pleased to read this quote and it reminds me why I make these videos. I had already shared with this community that a key driver to making YouTube videos is to help students - like Md - who may not have resources to get started with ABAQUS to begin to generated effective computational modelling solutions especially where they may not have the expertise available to them.

So, reading this comment, which he left of my #01 videos in the ABAQUS Masterclass Series, I was truly touched. It is such comments that light the fire in me to keep making more and more videos because and Md somewhere in Bangladesh is being blessed by them.

If you have any feedback to give to me about anything - videos, YouTube, LinkedIn posts or wider research questions - including questions you would want me to address in a future video, please keep them coming. I love reading from you, my community.

Thank you for reading this newsletter.

If you have any comment about my reflections this week, please do email me in a reply to this message and I will be so glad to hear from you.

If you know anyone who would benefit from reading these reflections, please do share with them. If there is any topic you want me to explore making a video about, then please do let me know by clicking on the link below. I wish you a wonderful week and I will catch up with you in the next newsletter.

Lets keep creating effective computational modelling solutions.

Michael
